The Truth About Zombies

So why is it that we still fear zombies? Despite a long list of weaknesses, what is it that inspires us to reuse them over and over again? What fear lurks in the brainless gaze and moans of the Zombie? Through our discussion of the elements of a zombie, it can be determined that a zombie has come to represent our fear of...

... the inevitablity of death.

After all, the way the zombie the way that a zombie is completly devoid of intelligence, the way it rots exposing the desintegrating inner workings of every human body, the inescapable nature of its bite, and the fact that once you are transformed there is no going back are all ways that death affects us in the real life. However, physical aspects aside, the threat of zombies in many ways represents the dangers of everyday life. Just as most zombies require bad luck or mistakes to secure kills by themselves, so too can everyday parts of are lives prove fatal. Everyday dangers such as car accidents, allergies, or illnesses usually aren't too dangerous by themselves and we hardly think about them. Yet such things can happen when they occur all at once, when we make bad choices, or just through plain bad luck. Finally, just how everyday dangers we have gotten are all around us, so too do Zombies completly fill the world of the story they inhabit. If we really take time to think about it, we are always at risk of getting killed. Even doing something as simple as crossing the street can end up having potentially disatrious consequences if we aren't careful. It is the same way with zombies.

Individually taken with skill and forethought, the potentially fatal aspects of our everyday lives can be managed, avoided, and controlled. However, if we let our guard down at the wrong place or time, we still may end up paying the price. The one time we don't think may be the begining of never thinking about anything else ever again. Zombies have come to represent this struggle: the struggle all of us battle out with eternity. However, in looking at the struggle we have with zombies, we must be careful. Or else we will let survival turn us into the very monsters and dangers that we ourselves struggle against.
